The man who figured out the enigma

Alan Turing was a British scientist and a pioneer in computer science. During World War II, he developed a machine that helped break the German Enigma code.

Alan Turing is often called the father of modern computing. He was a brilliant mathematician and logician. He developed the idea of the modern computer and artificial intelligence. During the Second World War he worked for the government breaking the enemy's codes and Churchill said he shortened the war by two years.

Life in Alan Turing's world

Exciting because he had so much knowledge and he new what the Germans were saying before the public knew at all. Also, he knew when the war was over before anyone else such as the enigma would say 'the war will end tomorrow' and he couldn't say anything.

Things you might not know about Alan Turing

Turing took his own life in 1954, two years after being outed as gay. Homosexuality was still a crime in Great Britain at the time, and Turing was convicted of “indecency.” He died from eating an apple laced with cyanide. He was only 41 years old.
