An amazing woman.

Florence Nightingale was an amazing woman and nurse. She published a famous classic and opened a nursing school.

Nightingale published the book Notes on Nursing What it is and What it is not. This became a classic and was published in 1860. She grew up in two wealthy estates. Her calling was to the sick and she worked hard to become a nurse.

Life in Florence Nightengale's world

She was the younger of two sisters. Women were heavily discriminated against and life was hard for many, if not all, people. Women were often not often welcome to work, write or live alone without a husband.
