The man who made millions of people happy

Jim Henson was an American puppeteer whose works, including Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, were seen by millions.

Jim Henson was born James Maury Henson, on September 24, 1936 in Greenville Mississippi. He grew up listening to the radio and watching television once his family bought one, and he greatly enjoyed the programs that were on. Jim decided to devote his life to the arts, and was offered a job as a puppeteer on television while he was still in college. The show he made was very popular and he was soon being drafted to make lots of commercials and appearances with his characters, which he would call "Muppets". In the year 1969, Jim and his group of puppeteers were asked to provide characters for a new children's show, Sesame Street. While the show was a major success, Jim was worried he would be type casted as merely a child entertainer. As time went on, Jim wanted to produce a show for adults. He tried pitching his ideas to many different American producers, but they wouldn't accept his ideas. Eventually, a British producer named Lew Grade allowed Jim to film his show in England. The show Jim created, "The Muppet Show", would become one of the most popular shows of all time. However, in 1990, Jim started feeling sick. He ignored its symptoms and went on with his life. However, it was discovered he had Group A Streptococcus. By the time he arrived in the emergency room at a New York hospital, it was too late to save him. He died at around 1 AM, about 20 hours after having been checked into the hospital.
