"I'm not concerned with your liking or disliking of me. . . All I ask is that you respect me as a human being" - Jackie Robinson

The first black Major League Baseball player

Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919, in Stamford, Connecticut and played baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was the first black Major League Baseball player in history.

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Stamford, Connecticut. He grew up in a black neighborhood because back then there was a lot of discrimination against colored people. In the MLB's 1946 season, he became the first black person to play majors. There was a lot of hate to this, but he was a good player. He played 10 seasons before he retired. Then on October 24, 1972, Jackie Robinson died at the age of 53.

    Life in Jackie Robinson's world

It was difficult because blacks and whites did not get along, so when Jackie Robinson started playing in the MLB, which was an all white sport, people didn't like him, and would throw balls at him while he was at bat on purpose, and even people on his own team didn't like him.
