A man who gave to others

Stephen Sutton lived a short live, but that doesn't mean to say his life wasn't full of giving to others and adventure.

On the 16th December 1994, Stephen Sutton was born in Burntwood. In September 1000 he started at his first primary school. He was very sporty and had the ambition of becoming a doctor. He went through his childhood like normal but at the age of 16, on September 16th 2010, he was diagnosed with cancer. Despite going under lots of treatment, Stephen insisted on going to school and got amazing grades at the end of 2011.

On 23rd June 2012 the adventure of fundraising began for Stephen when he abseiled down the mailbox in Birmingham. At the end of that year he passed his exams with flying colours. Unfortunately, on December 7th, Stephen's cancer was diagnosed was incurable. Stephen didn't let this stop him. A month later he created a bucket list which was released on his website along with his goal of raising £10,000 for the teenage Cancer Trust. A few weeks later Stephen talked to some students at a local school about how cancer affected him. On February 4th 2012 he organised another fund raising event for the Teenage Cancer Trust. It was a giant pass the parcel and musical chairs game. The fundraising never topped for Stephen. Quizzes were set up by him all in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and just a month later he reached his goal of raising £25,000. By the time the month was over he had raised £25,000. On April 7th 2013, Stephen went sky diving for the charity, and just a month later, on May 15th, a whopping £50,000 had been raised. A couple of weeks later Stephen organised yet another fund raising event, at a local school. By the time it was July Stephen had raised £75,0000 for the charity. On October 21st he had raised £45,000 more, making his total £120,000. On January 18th 2014 Stephen received the Halifax Giving Extra Award for his charity work.. On March 12th he received the Young Citizen of the Year award. On 14th May 2014 Stephen lost his battle with cancer and he died.

After his death he received an MBE from the Queen for his work. Stephen Sutton is an inspiration to millions of people all around the world.
